I want to go into Real Estate!

You just got laid-off.  The kids are starting school this fall.  You can’t stop watching house hunters and think it must be so much fun to sell houses………………. and you ended up here. Welcome!  I am Carl Adams and I am a Realtor.  In late 1993, I owned a photography studio and in looking to expand my income, I was trying to figure out something new to offer.  I photographed weddings, brides and grooms get married and then they BUY A HOUSE!  Simple, I’ll just sell them their house! It wasn’t quite that easy, but twenty years later, I’m still a Realtor and still absolutely love it.

Real Estate is the easiest vehicle to start your own business and yes, if you become a Realtor, you will be opening our own business. In real estate, even though your license hangs under a broker, i.e. Keller Williams, you are considered an independent contractor.  As such, you are your own boss!  Sounds cool, you work when you want, as much as you want, set your own hours, don’t come in until 10:00, leave at 3:00 …… it is very cool.  Except there isn’t a check every other Tuesday.  Not scared off?  Good.

While yes, you don’t make a bi-weekly check, but get paid when you sell a house, your checks can be huge!  You can also starve and surprisingly people just don’t call you up and say come sell my house, when you first start.
SO where do you start?  In PA, real estate licenses are required to take a state approved 60 hour course of study in Real Estate, sit and pass the state exam, pass a criminal background check and be at least eighteen years old.  After you pass your test you affiliate with a brokerage, they will give you a desk, business cards and go sell houses! You don’t know how?  Oh, hopefully, your broker offers training. AT Keller Williams we believe in training first and then continue training and updating and getting better and better and better ……… before you know it, you don’t even have time to go to the bank to cash all those checks! All right, maybe it isn’t quite that good, but it is awesome.  Have questions?  Feel free to be in touch and I can tell you more about becoming a Realtor and I’ll send you an invite to our monthly information night.
